About Us

QWWS provides telephone information and practical advice to Queensland women regarding all work-related issues. QWWS provides assistance relating to Queensland and Federal industrial relations and anti-discrimination legislation.

We may be able to assist with accessing formal complaints processes in relevant commissions, including the Queensland Anti Discrimination Commissions, the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission, Fair Work Australia and the Fair Work Ombudsman, and the Australian Human Rights Commission.

Our service is free, however we are not able to provide assistance to clients who have access to other forms of assistance such as a union or legal representation. While our service is not means-tested, we are a safety net service for women who are unable to gain assistance from other organisations, (such as a union or a solicitor), who may be in a disadvantaged bargaining position and/or who identify with one of the specified target groups below:

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
  • Non English speaking background.
  • Have a disabillity
  • Rural regional and remote areas.
  • Family responsibilities
  • Precarious and or low status employment
  • Mature age

Our free statewide advisory line 1800 621 458 is the best way to contact us to discuss your situation and to assess what assistance may be available to you. You can talk to us or leave a voice-message during business hours. QWWS can also assist you with a referral for counseling. Please visit http://www.wwc.org.au/index.html (the website for the National Working Women's Centres) to see our recent government submissions and other publications.
